Biometric Safes Will Protect Your Family's Heirlooms
Because of the extra layer of security involved with biometric safes, you can rest much easier knowing that your kids cannot access any firearm that may be concealed inside. I grew up around guns, and I know that my family was always very careful, but one thing they never did was lock their guns with a biometric safe. In their defense, biometric technology is relatively new, so I can't come down on them too hard. Our guns were pretty well hidden in my parent's closet, but if the wrong friends had gotten into the guns, it would have potentially been very dangerous.
When I was eighteen years old my house was broken in to in the middle of the day. My parents had gone out of town for the afternoon and I left my house to run some errands, but when I got back to my house I had the misfortune of meeting an intruder face to face. You can imagine how much "fight or flight" might have kicked in when coming face to face with a stranger who may or may not be armed and dangerous. When I saw him standing in my hallway rifling through my family's belongings, he looked at me and said "Is Tim here?" Overcome with panic and shock, I turned around and fled my own house. There were a number of things I did not know at that point which I will never know:
- Was he armed?
- Was he alone?
- Was he under the influence of an illegal substance? (The chances of this are high since drug addicts are much likely to commit crimes of desperation in times that are highly unlikely such as the middle of the day.)
Because I didn't stick around to assess the situation, I saved my life, but sadly, I did lose some belongings of significant value. During the robbery I lost my high school class ring, several pieces of antique brooches and jewelry that had been handed down from my grandmother (likely held more intrinsic value), but the most valuable of all the items lost were my mom's matching pearls from Japan that my dad bough her when they got married nearly 60 years ago. While I am glad that nobody was hurt during this ordeal, I still regret not properly securing my family's belongings with a biometric gun safe. All of the items taken from my family could have easily fit in even our smallest unit.

If burglars and other intruders feel like they are experiencing even the slightest amount of resistance they will usually move on to something less challenging.
